How to Delete Facebook Pixel
We’ve encountered this query a lot: how to delete facebook pixel. Maybe it’s because you no longer need the pixel for your ad campaigns or because the pixel is no longer feeding you relevant information.
Either way, the Facebook pixel is an extremely technical aspect that needs to be learned by every person who plans on doing Facebook ads and deleting knowing how to delete facebook pixel is important for their success.
Here at AdInterestPro, we want to help you master every aspect of Facebook ads so today, we’re going to go over what a Facebook pixel is, how it works, and how you can remove a Facebook pixel if it’s no longer useful for you. Let’s get started!
What is a Facebook Pixel?
Facebook Pixel is a code that you install on a website which lets you study the behavior of onsite visitors and link it to their Facebook profiles.
By syncing the information gathered from their website behavior and their Facebook profile, Facebook Pixel refines the targeting system and gets you the most relevant audience for your Ad campaigns. It also keeps track of all the actions the user takes when they go back to the website.
Facebook’s own words state that Facebook Pixel, “is an analytics tool that allows you to measure the effectiveness of your advertising by understanding the actions people take on your website.”
Simple users can define Facebook Pixel as something that tracks the actions taken by people on their website, but that’s not how you entirely define this tool. It is more like something that analyses the data and then implements it into categorizing the website users to create specific target groups to be targeted later on.
By now you know what Facebook Pixel has to offer, but how does it work?
How Does Facebook Pixel Work?
Let’s keep this as simple as informative as we can. For that, we will explain how Facebook Pixel works with the help of a couple of examples.
Take two online stores; let’s say Zara and Adidas. There’s no unusual thing about these stores, we’re just using them as an example. First let’s go to Zara to check out some new stuff.
Suppose there’s a cool white top and we add it to our cart.
Now, the Facebook Pixel code is running here in the background of this store and it knows if we add a product in our cart.
Let’s go on ahead and get some equally cool pants from Adidas, shall we?
Adding the pants to the cart as well. Note that here Facebook Pixel is also monitoring as you add the product in the cart.
Now without having to buy these products, and abandoning the carts, let’s shift over to our Facebook profile and see what’s going on.
After just a little bit of scrolling you will see ads of the exact products that you just added to your cart, that is Facebook Pixel doing its job. I’m sure it has happened to you before, it has happened to most Facebook or social media users. But, now you know how it happens.
Can Facebook Pixel be Deleted?
Facebook Pixel can be deleted manually from your website’s code or through the Facebook Ads Manager. Sadly, a lot of Pixel users get confused when they have to delete or remove Pixel from their website. This may have a lot of reasons such as messing up while you are setting up your Pixel and wanting to start over again.
You should also note that the data Facebook has on you, as a consumer cannot be deleted. This data is made for Facebook’s advertisers and cannot be removed from the user’s end. You can, although, set preferences to have a better experience.
Users can also use tools to disable tracking and use ad-blockers to make sure they keep their privacy and have a less chance of being advertised to.
But as a website owner, removing the code from your website is as easy as implementing it. There are more than one ways to do so. While setting up Facebook, you have the option to use manual integration of the code or you can inject the code by using services from platforms like Squarespace, Spotify, Wix, and more. Since Pixel is just a code sitting in the code of your website, you can simply remove it from your header.
If you used the injection method to install Pixel to your website, you can also use that to remove it. In this guide by Facebook, Squarespace is used as a reference guide to show users how to delete Pixel from the injected code. It should be the same for various other online sites.
How to Remove Facebook Pixel
After you have removed Facebook Pixel from your site you will see that it still remains in your Facebook Business tool within the Facebook Ads Manager. This causes a lot of confusion, but it is nothing to worry about.
The Pixel you see in Facebook Ads Manager is deactivated and even though you can see it here, it is not functioning. What has happened is that by removing it from the website, you have removed the possibility of it being able to monitor and track any onsite visitors. It is not unable to track any additional analytics for your advertisements and your website.
But what if you still want to remove Pixel from your Facebook Business Tool? Well, if you do, there are some very simple steps that you need to follow.
Deleting Facebook Pixel
- For the first step, you need to go to the Facebook Ads Manager.
- From there, access the Facebook Business Ads Manager.
- Select the Facebook account you are working on
- Look for Tools and open it
- Here you will see the “Pixels” option
- Look for the “actions” option, in the lower menu

- Click on the ‘x’ and your Pixel will be removed
And that’s how you remove Facebook Pixel from both your website and the Facebook Business Ads manager.
